Typical Class

Sadhna School: Sadhana of Indian Traditions, Culture and Values

    • The class takes place every month typically on third Sunday from 10:30 am to Noon. The first hour is a common class for all the students. For the last 30 minutes, the children learn about India and its culture in separate groups. The children attending grades K-3 (8 and under) in the year 2008-09 belong to Group 'Bal Gopal', and the children attending grades 4 -12 ( 9 and above) qualify for Group 'Nand Kishor'. A typical class is:

    • 10:30- 10:35: Start with OM meditation. Breathe in deeply. As you exhale, recite OM (5 Times) to clear the mind and to get ready for the class.

    • 10:35- 10:45: Prayers from the Sadhna School Prayer Book: Recite 5 prayers in Sanskrit and their meaning in English.

  • 10:45- 10:55: Bhajans and songs: Sing 5 bhajans from the Sadhna School Prayer Book.

    • 10:55- 11:10: Stories: One story by parent volunteer, and two short stories/ parables from Indian mythology, targeted at different age groups based on the curriculum followed by questions, discussion and announcements.

  • 11:10- 11:20: Shanti Paath, Arti and Prasad.

  • 11:20- 11:30: Yoga exercise (Surya Namaskar).

  • (Yoga exercise has been discontinued effective from March class, due to lack of individual space needed for exercise.)

    • 11:20- Noon: Learning about India and its Music and Art: Separate sessions conducted by our talented parents for Group Bal Gopal and Nand Kishor based on the curriculum:
